If you plan to use insurance, please contact your insurance provider directly to explore the coverage your plan provides. You may private pay and submit to your insurance for out of network providers. In some cases, we may be able to submit to insurance on your behalf.
Below are some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) related to payment for services:
Out-of-network benefits: Thanks to the Mental Health Parity Act, your health insurance is required to provide comparable coverage for both mental and physical health concerns. As long as your health insurance plan covers out of network services, it should cover a portion of your therapy. While it can be intimidating to start therapy and navigate coverage for the first time, the majority of our clients receive insurance reimbursements within a few weeks and with little difficulty. If you are able to use funds in a flexible spending (FSA) or health savings account (HSA), you save approximately an additional 30% by using pre-tax dollars to pay for your healthcare costs. The easiest way to determine your benefits is to call the customer service number on the back of your insurance card and ask the following questions:
What is my out of network coverage for CPT code 90837 (55-minute individual psychotherapy)?
Is there an out of network deductible that I need to meet before reimbursements apply?
How do I submit claims for reimbursement?
What is the usual reimbursement processing time?
Do I have a flex spending or health savings account that I can use for further savings?
If you have difficulty determining your coverage or other questions regarding affordability, please contact us for assistance and we would be happy to help you. You are responsible for submitting receipts to insurers for reimbursement.
HSA Debit Cards and Flexible Spending Accounts: If you have an FSA/HSA to use for various medical needs (co-pays, prescriptions, etc.), you may be able to use this to pay for counseling sessions. Please check with your insurance carrier or we can ask for you.
Direct Payment: We accept cash, check, credit (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express) and HSA account debit cards. Many clients find it more convenient to pay electronically via online billing. We currently use Simple Practice Services as they offer secure, encrypted billing that can store your preferred payment option for future appointments. This means payment can be processed prior to or the same day as your session without taking time from our meetings. Benefits of Direct Payment:
You determine how often your sessions are (insurance may limit the number of sessions you are allowed per calendar year).
You decide how many sessions you need to reach your goals (insurance often approves a limited number of sessions at a time or has a cap).
You choose to increase your privacy (insurance usually requires information about your diagnosis, treatment plan, and chart notes to be submitted for review).
